Institutional Framework for Tourism Development

Tourism development has regulatory and promotional functions, which are typically divided between government departments and tourism organisations (both at local and/or national levels).

The private sector operates within the framework set by government agencies; however, it should be involved in both tourism regulation and promotion via sector associations in a participatory public-private dialogue.

TOURISMRESULTS can assist in the following:

  • Review the existing institutional and organizational structures of the tourism sector, i.e. public sector organisations (incl. central and local level), private sector associations, NGOs and local community groups
  • Institutional separation of tourism policy and tourism promotion
  • Involvement of the private sector in a multi-stakeholder dialogue
